Senegal were crowned African Cup of Nations champions for the second time in their history after defeating host nation Morocco 1–0 in a final that witnessed scenes of chaos near the end of regular time and extended into extra time.

The match’s only goal came early in extra time, when Pape Gueye fired home a shot to cap a swift counterattack.
The match was halted for several minutes toward the end of regular time after Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw instructed his players to leave the pitch in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco following a VAR review.
Senegal’s players stood on the sidelines, with some entering the dressing room, before eventually returning to the field to complete the match. After play resumed, Brahim Díaz’s penalty kick was weak and struck straight down the middle, sending the game into extra time, where Senegal emerged superior.
