Manchester United sent a strong message to their Premier League rivals on Sunday with a commanding 5-2 victory over visiting Ipswich Town in the second round, bouncing back from their 2-0 defeat to Hull City in the opening round.

Ipswich made the stronger start and took the lead in the 29th minute through Leif Davis, who capitalized on a cross from Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu before firing a powerful shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes restored parity in the 40th minute, pouncing on a mistake in midfield and driving forward before unleashing a powerful effort that beat the Ipswich goalkeeper.
United came out with greater determination after the break and completed the turnaround in the 56th minute. Harry Maguire’s shot deflected off defender Jacob Greaves and wrong-footed the Ipswich goalkeeper before finding the net.
Five minutes later, United were awarded a penalty after Matheus Cunha was brought down inside the box. Fernandes converted from the spot in the 61st minute to put the hosts 3-1 ahead.
The Portuguese captain completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound inside the penalty area to score his third goal of the night and his second Premier League hat-trick.
United continued to press forward, with Fernandes turning provider for the fifth goal. He delivered a precise pass to Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo, who finished into the net in the 82nd minute.
Ipswich substitute Chuba Akpom pulled one back in the first minute of stoppage time, but his goal did little to change the outcome.
The victory gave Manchester United a strong response after their opening-round setback, while Ipswich suffered their first defeat of the season after beginning their campaign with a 2-1 win over Sunderland.
