Saudi Arabia and Oman advanced to the semifinals of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup on Tuesday, eliminating Iraq and Kuwait.
Oman joined Saudi Arabia in the semifinals from Group A after Saudi Arabia’s 2-0 victory over Iraq. The result sent Oman through in second place following its thrilling 3-1 win over Kuwait.

In the first match, Abdullah Salem opened the scoring for Saudi Arabia in the 55th minute, before Abdullah Al-Hamdan doubled the lead in the 69th minute.
In the other match, Shabib Al-Khalid gave Kuwait the lead in the sixth minute. Nasser Al-Rawahi equalized for Oman in the 65th minute, then scored again in the 81st minute. Musab Al-Shaqsi completed Oman’s comeback with a third goal in the 84th minute.
With these results, Saudi Arabia secured top spot in the group with a perfect nine points after confirming its qualification in the previous round.
Oman finished second with four points, level with Iraq on both points andgoal difference. However, the number of disciplinary cards determined Oman’s qualification, as disciplinary records are the third criterion used to break ties in the standings.
Kuwait were eliminated from the tournament after suffering their third defeat, leaving them bottom of the group without a point.
