FIFA report reveals scale of online abuse during 2026 World Cup

Amman — France’s national team was the most targeted by abuse on social media during the 2026 World Cup, receiving more than 18,000 abusive posts and comments, followed by England, FIFA announced.اضافة اعلان

FIFA’s Social Media Protection Service analyzed more than 17 million posts and comments related to the tournament. Following human review, 240,000 cases were classified as abusive.

Racism accounted for 20% of the abuse, while threats of violence made up 14% and xenophobia accounted for 12%.

Moderation tools blocked 9.2 million abusive comments before they became visible to the public, out of 60.7 million comments monitored across the official accounts of FIFA and participating football associations.

A total of 786 accounts were referred to law enforcement authorities for review, including 232 that had posted highly serious threats. FIFA also warned of the potential impact of online abuse on the mental health of players and their families.
