The Goncourt Academy stated that it made its decision to safeguard the integrity of the prize by rejecting texts generated with AI assistance. The Academy cited accusations of AI usage and literary plagiarism as the primary factors driving its decision.
Nevertheless, Aurélien maintains that he is capable of rewriting the exact same novel using a pen.
The incident also raises questions regarding whether AI text-detection tools should influence decisions that carry direct consequences for writers' professional careers. The Authors Guild in the United States warns that certain AI content detection tools can be highly inaccurate and asserts that they should never be relied upon as the sole basis for withdrawing or excluding a book.
