Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian drones twice attacked Moldovan airspace while his presidential aircraft was passing through the country.

In an interview with US broadcaster CBS, Zelenskyy said he was at Chisinau Airport in Moldova, near Ukraine’s western border, while traveling abroad and again on his return journey when the two incidents occurred.
“They attacked Moldova when my presidential aircraft was there. Perhaps they did not intend to attack me personally,” Zelenskyy said.
“When we returned home, passing through Chisinau again, they did the same thing,” he added.
A Moldovan government spokesperson said on September 9 that Zelenskyy’s departure for Norway had been delayed after authorities in Chisinau closed the country’s airspace following a drone-related alert.
Two Russian drones entered Moldovan airspace that day. One landed in a field north of the capital, triggering a fire, while the second continued into Romanian airspace.
Zelenskyy had not previously spoken publicly about the second incident.
The exact timing of Zelenskyy’s subsequent passage through Moldova on his return to Ukraine from Canada was not immediately clear.
Moldovan authorities said two drones entered the country’s airspace on Monday, September 14.
On Sunday, a Russian drone struck a passenger train near Ukraine’s border with Poland, a NATO member, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other European diplomats had traveled on the same railway line.
