Kyiv expressed its readiness to take “significant steps” toward peace during the second round of negotiations with the Russian delegation in Istanbul on Monday, according to a source from the Ukrainian delegation.
“The Ukrainian delegation came to Istanbul with a clear agenda and a desire to make significant progress toward peace,” the source said, adding that Ukraine hopes the Russian side will “not repeat the same preconditions.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that his country is ready “to take the necessary steps to achieve peace.”
During a meeting with NATO leaders in Lithuania, Zelensky said, “We are ready to take the necessary steps to achieve peace,” noting that if Russia undermines the Istanbul talks and they produce no results, “there will be an urgent need to impose new sanctions” on it.
