United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned that ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanon pose a “serious risk” to the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, according to his spokesperson.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “The continued military activity in Lebanon represents a serious risk to the ceasefire and to efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region. The Secretary-General reiterates his call on all parties to immediately cease hostilities.”
At least 182 people were martyred and more than 890 others injured on Wednesday, according to a preliminary official toll, following dozens of simultaneous Israeli airstrikes across various areas in Lebanon.
The spokesperson added that the Secretary-General “strongly condemns the loss of civilian lives and expresses deep concern over the rising number of civilian casualties.”
He continued: “There is no military solution to the conflict. The Secretary-General continues to urge all parties to resort to diplomatic channels.”
