Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh has informed France that legislative elections scheduled for November 28 will be postponed for several months due to deteriorating conditions across the Palestinian territories, according to a letter seen by Reuters.
The letter, addressed to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and dated October 8, said an assessment had concluded that the anticipated political, security and economic conditions on which the November 28, 2026 election date was based had not materialized.
“Holding elections under the current circumstances faces major obstacles affecting their inclusiveness, freedom of participation and the integrity of the electoral process,” the letter said.
