In a statement marking Resistance and Liberation Day, the army chief said:

“The Israeli enemy persists in its violations and continuous assaults against our country and our people. It continues to occupy parts of our land and obstructs the full deployment of the army in the south, which constitutes a blatant violation of all relevant international resolutions.”

He added:

“This occasion comes at a time of great difficulty and danger, following a comprehensive Israeli aggression on Lebanon—especially the south—that resulted in thousands of martyrs and wounded, and caused widespread destruction of property and infrastructure.”

He stressed that the catastrophic consequences of that aggression remain visible, but it also revealed the national spirit of the Lebanese people and their solidarity in standing by one another during the attack.

Hélou also highlighted the army’s exceptional efforts in combating terrorism and organized crime, securing and protecting the northern and eastern borders, and ensuring the safety of the municipal and local elections, which he said reflect the will of the Lebanese people, their commitment to their unique national model, and their aspirations for a better future.

Despite a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on November 27, Israel continues to carry out airstrikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as in the southern suburbs of Beirut, and its forces remain stationed at five locations in southern Lebanon.
