Israeli Broadcasting Authority: 16 Soldiers Die by Suicide Since Beginning of the Year Due to Fighting in Gaza

The army’s findings, published on Sunday morning, attribute the suicides to traumatic scenes witnessed by soldiers, the loss of comrades, and an inability to cope with the intensity of events.

A senior military official told the Israeli Broadcasting Authority that “most suicides among IDF soldiers are due to the complex realities that followed the war. War has consequences—these are difficult challenges, and we are witnessing many such cases.”

Since the start of 2025, 16 suicides have been recorded, including seven reserve soldiers who died by suicide last month alone.

In comparison:

In 2024, 21 soldiers died by suicide, including 12 reserve soldiers.

In 2023, the number was 17.

In 2022, 14 soldiers.

And in 2021, 11 soldiers.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority noted growing concern within the Israeli army over what it describes as a “worrying reality”—the rise in suicides among soldiers in the past year and current year, compared to previous years.
