Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States eases military pressure and lifts its blockade of Iranian ports, a senior Iranian official said Tuesday, according to Reuters.

Iran's military central command said Sunday that it had received information indicating that the United States was preparing to resume military operations with the support of regional countries. It warned that any such action would trigger retaliation from Tehran without limitations or considerations.
"The United States needs to officially declare that it wants to resolve the issue diplomatically, and then agree on a timeline for moving forward with the process," the senior Iranian official said.
The official added that Iran's delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York has full authority to revive the diplomatic track with Washington.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who left Tehran for New York on Tuesday, will not meet US President Donald Trump at the UN headquarters in New York, the official said.
The official said details of a possible agreement to end hostilities with Washington could be discussed in New York through mediators. Tehran delivered its proposal to the United States through intermediaries on September 16, he added.
"The UN General Assembly is a golden opportunity for the United States to return to diplomacy," the official said, adding that Tehran would welcome a revival of diplomatic efforts if Washington takes concrete steps.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is attending the UN General Assembly in New York at the head of the country's diplomatic delegation, as the repercussions of the US-Israeli war on Iran and tensions between Tehran and Washington continue.
