United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres reaffirmed last night that peace in Palestine must be grounded in the two-state solution.
In his address to the BRICS Summit in Brazil, Guterres emphasized that peace also requires an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the immediate and unconditional release of hostages, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and an end to destructive annexation and violence in the West Bank.

He also expressed deep concern about the militarization of artificial intelligence, stressing that the world is at a point where peace is more urgent than ever. He called for a multilateral response to AI, rooted in justice and human rights.
“Artificial intelligence must not be the privilege of the few. It should benefit everyone — especially developing countries, which must have a real voice in global AI governance,” Guterres stated.
He announced that he would soon present a report outlining innovative options for voluntary funding to support AI capacity building in developing countries, adding that effective and fair AI governance cannot be achieved without addressing the deep structural imbalances in our global system.
