The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned of an unprecedented humanitarian and agricultural disaster in the Gaza Strip, according to its annual report.اضافة اعلان

The organization confirmed that less than 5% of Gaza’s farmland remains cultivable, after more than 80% of agricultural areas were destroyed by the ongoing war.

It added that about 70% of agricultural greenhouses have been completely demolished, while most wells have been damaged, making access to water nearly impossible and leading to an almost total collapse of the local food production system.

The report stated that Gaza is now entirely dependent on humanitarian aid to meet its food needs, warning that continued restrictions on the entry of agricultural supplies and fuel through the crossings could lead to widespread famine in the coming months.

According to the FAO, 90% of Gaza’s population is unable to access sufficient food. Vegetable and grain production has fallen to less than half its level two years ago, while the fishing sector has suffered extensive destruction and ongoing restrictions that prevent it from functioning normally.

The organization classified Gaza among the world’s four worst food crises for 2024–2025, alongside Sudan, Yemen, and Afghanistan. It called for an urgent, multi-sectoral response encompassing food security, water, health, and psychosocial support to avert a total humanitarian collapse in the Strip.
