According to a statement by the Islamic Waqf Department in occupied Jerusalem, dozens of settlers, including the extremist rabbi Shimshon Elboim, carried out provocative tours in the mosque’s courtyards and performed Talmudic rituals in its eastern section.
The Waqf also reported that Israeli police imposed tight restrictions on Palestinian worshippers entering the mosque, confiscating their IDs at the gates.
Meanwhile, extremist “Temple Mount” groups have launched a petition addressed to Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, making provocative demands related to Al-Aqsa during the so-called "Jerusalem Day" on May 26.
The groups are calling on Ben-Gvir to keep the mosque open to settlers from Sunday evening through Monday evening (May 25–26) and to allow full freedom to perform Talmudic rituals inside, including the entry of what they called "sacred items" such as the tallit, tefillin, and Torah scrolls.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is subjected to daily violations and incursions by settlers—except on Fridays and Saturdays—under Israeli police protection, as part of ongoing attempts to assert full control over the site and enforce a temporal and spatial division.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have continued their siege of Al-Aqsa by severely restricting the entry of Muslim worshippers, erecting metal barriers at its gates, detaining worshippers, and obstructing their access.
