Britain on Monday called on Israel to roll back its decision to expand its control over the occupied West Bank.
The British government said it “strongly condemns the decision by Israel’s security cabinet to expand Israeli control over the West Bank.”
Critics say the step taken by Israel to facilitate the expansion of settlements and broaden their authority in the West Bank is moving in the direction of annexing occupied land.
The British government added: “Any unilateral attempt to change the geographic or demographic character of Palestine is completely unacceptable and would be contrary to international law. We urge Israel to reverse these decisions immediately.”
It stressed that the two-state solution “remains the only viable path to achieving lasting peace, in which Israel lives in safety and security alongside a sovereign and viable Palestinian state.”
