One Israeli was killed and 19 others were injured, three of them critically, in a munitions explosion in the Upper Galilee near the Lebanese border on Monday, according to Israel’s Channel 12.
The channel reported that the rescue operation had ended after the injured were transported to hospitals.
The Israeli occupation army said earlier that its forces in the Upper Galilee area were providing assistance and that military medical evacuation aircraft were on their way to the site.
Israel’s army radio had earlier reported that 20 people were injured in the incident in the Galilee.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service said, “We are dealing with a complex incident and continue to provide medical treatment to the injured and evacuate them quickly to hospitals.”
Channel 12 quoted the municipality of Ma’alot-Tarshiha as saying that students and members of the teaching staff were injured during a school trip near the northern border.
Meanwhile, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had been briefed on the details of the serious incident in the north.
The office added that Netanyahu had ordered the injured to be evacuated to hospitals while continuing to conduct ongoing assessments of the situation.
