Google is preparing to add a long-requested feature to its smartphones, something users have been waiting for for years.
According to Android Authority, the new feature will allow users to turn off the screen by double-tapping anywhere on it.

This feature has already become common across many Android phones such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. Its absence on Google’s own Pixel phones had long raised questions, especially since they all run on the same Android operating system.
Until now, Pixel devices only supported double-tap to wake the screen. But with this update, users will now be able to both wake and turn off the screen using the same gesture.
Android 16 Update
Although the feature hasn’t been activated yet, Google has confirmed that it will be rolled out soon, starting with the upcoming Android 16 update.
This move is considered a positive step for Pixel users who have been missing out on some of the standard Android features available on other brands, even though Pixel phones offer several exclusive capabilities.
Instagram's Surprise Launch: “Edits” App
In a separate tech update, Instagram has launched a new app called “Edits”, designed for professional video editing on smartphones. The app aims to support content creators by offering high-level editing features right from their mobile devices.
Google Pushes for Office Return
Google has also announced that employees working remotely must now return to the office at least three days a week, warning that failure to comply may result in job loss.
Exclusive Pixel Features
Pixel phones represent Google's own vision of a smartphone, combining powerful performance, minimalist design, and tight software integration. Some of the exclusive features include:
“Now Playing”, which automatically recognizes music playing nearby.
Clean software with only essential Google apps, giving users full control over what to install.
Access to the Google Beta Program, enabling early testing of features before public release.
Full integration with Google Assistant.
“Call Screen”, which uses AI to filter incoming calls.
