The story of Downriver
Downriver blends comedic twists with dramatic depth. The film follows a recently divorced writer who travels with his close friend, a surgeon, to the US state of Montana for a week of relaxation and fly-fishing.
However, their friendship is soon put to the test when they meet a captivating and intriguing fishing guide, played by Jessica Biel. Their plans for a peaceful getaway begin to unravel, taking an unexpected turn neither of them anticipated.
The team behind Downriver
The film marks director Sam Jones’s feature-length narrative filmmaking debut. Jones co-wrote the screenplay with bestselling author Carl Hiaasen, who has been nominated for three Pulitzer Prizes, promising sharp dialogue and carefully crafted comedic situations.
A new production initiative to support emerging talent
The film is the second project to emerge under the banner of AEIP, the independent production arm affiliated with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s parent company. The initiative was launched to nurture and support emerging filmmaking talent behind the camera and provide opportunities for fresh visual perspectives beyond traditional commercial cinema.
Biel’s involvement comes amid a busy schedule. She recently wrapped filming the thriller series The Better Sister for Amazon Prime, and has also joined Playmates, a project from Searchlight Studios.
