Director of Agriculture in Jerash, Dr. Ola Mahasneh, said the directorate, in cooperation with the Governorate Council, implemented a project to line the Al-Maghasel Canal over a length of two kilometres at a cost of approximately JOD 61,000, benefiting around 50 farmers. Another 25 farmers benefited from a project to line the Abu Al-Raml and Eastern Al-Shatout Canal, covering 200 metres.
She explained that these projects improve the efficiency of water supply and reduce losses, helping preserve fruit trees, sustain agricultural activity and limit losses caused by delays in irrigation water delivery.
Farmers Ahmad Atoum and Mohammad Zureikat said the projects had brought a tangible improvement to irrigation by ensuring water reached their land and enabling them to irrigate trees and crops. This, they said, has had a positive impact on tree growth and agricultural output, raising hopes for a better growing season despite ongoing water scarcity.
The projects are part of the ministry’s efforts to promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce water waste, improve water-use efficiency and ensure the fair and safe distribution of water to the agricultural land and holdings they serve.
