Dr. Ishaq Ayyal Salman, a researcher specializing in the history of Tafila, said Palm Valley is among Jordan's richest areas in terms of biodiversity. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, birds, and plant species, including several rare species that thrive thanks to the area's favorable habitat.
He added that the valley also holds significant geological value, containing natural deposits of copper and manganese, along with exposed rock and sandstone formations that reveal the region's geological history. These features attract geologists, researchers, photographers, and artists seeking inspiration from its unique landscapes.
Salman noted that the valley combines ecological, geological, and archaeological tourism, giving it a competitive advantage that could make it one of southern Jordan's premier tourist destinations if properly developed.
For his part, Ahmad Al-Saud, head of the Green Cover Environmental Society, said the valley possesses all the elements needed to develop safe adventure tourism.
Its natural pools and waterfalls could support activities such as canyoning, swimming, diving in freshwater streams, rock climbing, hiking, cave exploration, and camping.
He added that the area also boasts clean air and a healthy environment. An environmental study conducted in 2022 found that the valley's freshwater sources are of high quality and suitable for drinking, enhancing its appeal as a destination for relaxation and ecotourism.
Specialized studies have also recommended the area as a wellness retreat, particularly for people with respiratory illnesses and certain chronic conditions.
Tourism trail expert Captain Aws Al-Marayat said successful investment in Palm Valley requires comprehensive infrastructure, including paved access roads, electricity and water services, and integrated tourism facilities such as eco-lodges, campsites, chalets, visitor plazas, shaded rest areas, and service centers.
He also emphasized the importance of establishing a specialized training center where adventure enthusiasts can learn rock climbing and rappelling techniques while adhering to the highest safety standards, helping position the valley as a premier adventure tourism destination.
Al-Marayat stressed that any development should follow sustainable development principles, balancing investment with environmental conservation and biodiversity protection to preserve the site for future generations.
Tourism experts believe that Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, in cooperation with relevant authorities, should prepare a comprehensive development plan that includes officially designated hiking trails, directional signage, visitor centers, and connections to southern Jordan's broader tourism routes.
Such measures would encourage longer visitor stays and generate greater economic benefits for local communities.
They also noted that investing in Palm Valley extends beyond tourism, offering genuine opportunities to establish small and medium-sized enterprises, create jobs for local residents, and promote traditional crafts and locally made products, thereby supporting economic and social development.
Palm Valley remains one of southern Jordan's hidden natural treasures, boasting exceptional environmental, geological, and tourism assets.
It stands as a model for sites worthy of greater attention and investment through a sustainable development vision that protects the environment, showcases the area's natural beauty, and firmly places it on Jordan's ecotourism and adventure tourism map.
