Women own 12% of ACC-registered businesses

AMMAN — The number of enterprises owned entirely by women and registered with the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) reached 2,761 in 2021, or 12.2 percent of the total 22,692 individual ACC-registered entities in the same year, while men owned 19,931 businesses the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.اضافة اعلان

The 12.2 percentage is up from 10.7 percent in 2013, showing a cumulative 1.8 percent growth rate.

Women-owned businesses focused on a number of sectors, including 978 foodstuff companies in 2021, up from 825 in 2013, while the number of garment and jewelry sector enterprises reached 466 last year, the report showed.

The remaining companies in 2021 covered 383 home and office furniture and stationery enterprises, 321 services and consulting businesses, 207 health, pharmaceuticals, and supplies sector establishments, figures revealed.

Women owned 139 communications and information technology companies, 116 construction and building materials businesses, and 94 operated in automotive, heavy machinery and accessories sector, according to the statistics.

In addition, they owned 55 enterprises in the electricity sector, in addition to two companies in the financial and banking industry.

The capital of individual institutions grew during the 2013–2021 period at a cumulative rate of 0.6 percent per annum, as the proportion of the capital of women-owned businesses out of that of the total ACC-registered capital institutions for 2021 stood at about 9.9 percent, compared with 9.5 percent in 2013.
