AMMAN — Replacing traditional lighting units with LED lights will save municipalities about JD20 million annually, said Ziad Al-Saeeda, director of electricity and rural electrification at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, according to Addustour. The ministry is working on a project to replace 410,000 municipal lights with energy-saving smart LED lights. The project will last nine years, with an implementation phase of two years and a maintenance phase of seven years, Saeeda said in a press statement. JD5 million will come from the ministry, while municipalities will pay the rest of the costs. Municipalities currently pay JD27 million for lighting, which the project will reduce by JD 20 million, according to Saeeda.
