Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh Tuesday called on
renewable energy companies to shoulder their social responsibility by working
to reduce unemployment and poverty rates in the areas they operate, according
to Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The
minister stressed, in a meeting that included 24 representatives from renewable
energy companies, on the need for a specific mechanism for companies to improve
economic opportunities for local communities.
He
said that the Local Communities Support Foundation has created a fund managed
by the companies, to maximize efforts to improve the situation in local
communities, pointing to the importance of involving the people of these areas
in this program to ensure that support reaches the targeted population.
For
their part, company representatives stressed the importance of establishing a
flexible framework for social responsibility.
They
also indicated the need of social responsibility projects to have a nature of
sustainability, and to have a clear annual plan and performance indicators to
determine the goals of each company annually.
