France's CAC 40 declined by around 0.90% from 8,714.93 points, whereas Germany's DAX bucked the trend, rising 0.43% from 26,319.45 points, supported by a surge in software equities.
The broader market's cautious performance came alongside rising oil prices and floundering efforts to end the war with Iran, despite support from a strong earnings season and moderate US inflation data.
Regarding Friday's session, European stocks closed mixed after gains in technology and energy shares offset some of the pressure caused by declining mining stocks and escalating tensions between the US and Iran.
The limited movements near record levels signaled that investors refrained from panic selling, though they trimmed risk ahead of the weekend.
The STOXX 600 index closed down 0.21% at 657.84 points, snapping its four-week weekly winning streak. In London, the FTSE 100 lost the same percentage to close at 10,750.11 points, while France's CAC 40 dropped 0.16% to 8,636.80 points. Germany's DAX bucked the trend once more, advancing 0.51% to 26,432.86 points.
