According to the U.S. network Fox News, wide areas—particularly across the Great Lakes region in northern United States—have recorded a sharp drop in temperatures, plunging below minus 20 degrees Celsius, and falling to below minus 30 degrees Celsius in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to the National Weather Service.
The agency forecast that the cold snap will intensify in the coming days with the advance of a polar air mass, especially across the central United States, where wind chill values could reach around minus 45 degrees Celsius.
