AMMAN - Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday said an amendment to Article 26 of the Constitution regarding the unification of the state's general budget and the budgets of independent government departments does not mean whatsoever trespassing on the independence of the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ).اضافة اعلان

Speaking at a meeting of the Senate discussing a slew of amendments to the Constitution, the premier said: "If there are any legislative requirements, whether regulations, decisions, or amendments to laws, that would enhance the independence of the Central Bank, so that it remains a fortress that defends monetary and financial stability in the Kingdom, the government will be putting these legislative procedures and frameworks into action."

Khasawneh stressed that it has become imperative to unify the state's general budget and the budgets of independent government agencies, acknowledging that the bid to do so has started but is not complete yet. He indicated that the amendment to Article 26 of the Constitution provides an opportunity in that direction.
