The latest performance indicators released by the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) showed an increase in the size of Jordan's public transport fleet and specialized freight transport companies during the second quarter of 2026 compared with the first quarter, driven by a notable surge in the number of vehicles operating through ride-hailing applications.

According to official data, the Kingdom's total public transport fleet grew by 7.8% to reach 45,602 vehicles by the end of the second quarter, compared with the previous quarter. The increase was primarily driven by a sharp rise in the number of vehicles operating through ride-hailing platforms, which reached 16,776 vehicles, representing a 21.4% increase.
The figures also showed relative stability in the number of yellow taxis, which rose by 0.3% to 5,284 vehicles.
By contrast, the number of service taxis (servees) declined by 1.1% to 985 vehicles, while the number of public buses fell by 13.8%, bringing the total to 672 buses.
In the specialized freight transport sector, the total number of specialized transport companies increased by 11.6% to 385 companies.
General cargo transport companies accounted for the largest share with 164 companies, followed by container transport companies with 120, and oil and petroleum products transport companies with 29.
In the heavy transport sector, the number of truck tractors increased by 4.8% to 20,272 units, while the number of trailers rose by 1.7% to 25,933 units.
The data also indicated that the average age of Jordan's freight fleet reached 18.6 years by the end of the second quarter.
Regarding ownership structure in the trucking sector, individual ownership accounted for 77.9% of the fleet, while company ownership represented 22.1%.
