AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry condemned Israel's decision to confiscate Palestinian lands in Silwan, East Jerusalem, to build a cable car connecting Silwan to the Old City of Jerusalem. The ministry stated that this decision is "unacceptable and condemnable," constituting a grave violation of international law and UNESCO resolutions.

Ministry spokesperson Sufyan Qudah emphasized that the confiscation of Palestinian lands, their displacement, and attempts to alter the status and character of East Jerusalem are blatant violations of international law and legitimacy resolutions. Qudah referred to UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334, urging immediate international action to halt Israeli "unilateral and illegal" measures.
He further noted that Israeli actions to change the character and legal status of the Old City of Jerusalem violated the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflict (1954). Qudah asserted that confiscating Silwan lands also breaches the Hague Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (1972) and relevant United Nations and UNESCO resolutions.
