Director of the Jordan Seismological Observatory, Engineer Ghassan Sweidan, announced that the observatory recorded an earthquake that struck a border area between Iraq and Syria on Thursday morning.

In a press statement, Sweidan confirmed that the quake occurred inside Iraqi territory, about 50 kilometers east of Deir Ezzor, at 5:30 a.m. Jordan local time.
He added that the earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale.
