Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II will participate on Wednesday, representing King Abdullah II, in the MED9 Summit in Croatia, at the invitation of Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.
The summit is being held in the Croatian city of Split, bringing together leaders of southern European countries and representatives of the European Union to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation.
Jordan’s participation as a key guest for the third consecutive year highlights the Kingdom’s regional role and its strong partnership with the European Union.
The MED9 group comprises nine southern European EU member states: Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
On the sidelines of the summit, Crown Prince Al Hussein met with the Croatian prime minister on Tuesday. He expressed appreciation for Croatia’s invitation to Jordan to participate as a key guest for the third consecutive year, describing it as a reflection of the strong ties between Jordan, Croatia and the MED9 countries.
The meeting also addressed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields. The Crown Prince highlighted the Jordan-EU Investment Conference, which Jordan will host next November, stressing its importance in strengthening partnerships between Jordan and EU member states.
He also reviewed preparations to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ in 2030 at the Baptism Site (Al-Maghtas), highlighting the site’s historical significance and Jordan’s position as a global destination for Christian pilgrimage.
Regarding regional developments, Crown Prince Al Hussein stressed the importance of intensifying international efforts to restore calm in the region and strengthening joint action to address challenges facing southern EU countries and the wider Mediterranean neighborhood.
