“Many of the names that have been shortlisted,
including some who play professionally for the NBA, require a high budget and
very thorough negotiations. Our choice of a naturalized player will rely on
financial capabilities and support provided,” Abu Ata told Jordan News.
Trusted sources have informed Jordan News that the national team has shortlisted three players,
one of whom will be selected as a small forward.
Regarding the fate of Jordan’s face-off against Sri
Lanka as part of the Asia Cup qualifiers, Abu Atta said: “We have contacted
FIBA about forfeiting Sri Lanka (20-0), as per standard procedure, because we
are keen on acquiring the largest number of points possible to improve our
ranking. FIBA has yet to respond to us.”
Meanwhile, International Basketball Federation (
FIBA)
has sent the JBF a letter thanking the federation for its efforts in organizing
the final window of the 2021 Asia Cup qualifiers earlier in June.
"We have received a letter of thanks from FIBA
for Jordan’s hosting and organization of the qualifiers window during such
difficult times," noting that Jordan has become one of FIBA’s preferences
for hosting a number of upcoming continental events, Abu Ata said.
